16-year-old singer/songwriter Yael Danon has a sincere warning for anyone who might be falling for some common traps in a relationship.

In her new single “Teddy Bears,” Yael admits it can be easy to be enticed by generic compliments and cute gifts. However, if the person you’re falling for has already been tagged by a friend as a red flag, you may eventually find yourself saying (or singing) the words, “he’s just another mistake.”

(Actually, having your heart broken or attempting to prevent a friend from having theirs broken isn’t a requirement to sing along to that line in the song. It’s very catchy!)

Yael Danon was born and raised in Panama, and started writing her first songs when she was eight years old. After performing in her school’s talent show, she realized she really enjoyed being on stage, and decided to take up musical theater. In 2019, Yael’s journey reached a completely new height, as she auditioned for Israel’s Got Talent while on a family vacation. She won the Youth Category at 13, and was determined to begin releasing her own music after the show.

“Teddy Bears” marks the start of an exciting new era for Yael! The rising indie pop star spills, “‘Teddy Bears’ is basically that good and smart friend who’s warning you about this new guy you’re just starting to get to know (which she dated not-so-long ago), and which you’re already crushing on. The song highlights all the cute stupid sh*t you’re falling for, instead of looking at the big picture…he’s just another mistake. Just like your friend got hurt from him in the past, you will too. I probably need to listen to my own advice.”

Surely, Yael Danon will be sharing even more words of wisdom on her debut EP Diary Girl, out this summer. In fact, she plans on telling her real life stories of toxic relationships, icky breakups, anxiety, FOMO, and other sticky situations she’s been stuck in. Keep an eye out on Yael’s Instagram @yaeldanon_ for updates!
