I’d say “here it is, just incase you needed to know what I’m listening to on this fine New Music Friday.” The thing is, I actually DO need you to know. When life throws us lemons, we can make lemonade, and these songs are definitely cool enough to be the ice cubes that make it all hit the spot!
Here’s some of my favorite new music picks for the weekend, all in one spot.
aespa – Life’s Too Short
aespa has returned with their shimmery new single “Life’s Too Short,” meant to encourage listeners to live life to its fullest! It’s the second single from their second mini album Girls – The 2nd Mini Album, out on July 8th.
If you’re not having the greatest day ever, “Life’s Too Short” is a song that can definitely help cheer you up. Also, the line “why you gotta be so vicious / be about your business instead of getting up in mine” is THE TRUUUUUUTH! PREACH GIRLS, PREACH!
The group said, “‘Life’s Too Short’ contains a message to all our MYs to stay true to yourselves and spread love because life is too short, so I hope everyone listens to it and receives positive energy!”
Aidan Bissett – Twenty Something
Alt-pop prince Aidan Bissett is back with “Twenty Something,” a story about the time he found the right person at the wrong time. Talk about a yikes moment, right?
Aidan says, “Twenty Something’ was inspired by falling for someone but realizing that, at this moment in time, it would never work out. So instead of following those feelings, you push it off in hopes it may work in the future.”
Alexander 23 – “Somebody’s Nobody”
If Alexander 23 can’t get you in your feels, who will? The GRAMMY®-nominated singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist has assembled another brutally honest track about the coldest, loneliest thoughts surrounding a breakup.
No matter the kind of relationship, we all long to mean something to someone. “Somebody’s Nobody” also happens to be the first song off Alexander 23’s forthcoming album Aftershock, out July 15.
Charlie Puth (feat. Jungkook of BTS) – Left and Right
We’ve been over this like a bazillion times now, but I’m gonna say it once more… this song is a treat. This song is brilliant. This song seriously might just be the collab of the decade.
Charlie Puth? Jungkook? Thank you for your service.
Diplo and bbno$ – pogo
This was an obvious choice, and not just because Diplo is my favorite human ever and bbno$ is capable of being everyone’s spirit animal. The two came together for such a playful banger that may just catch you by surprise! I truly hope you weren’t planning on chilling out, because “pogo” will literally make you get up and bounce around.
The music video is not only hilarious af, but it’s also an educational experience. I swear, I had no idea (nor did I even have the creativity to be able to imagine) a pogo stick could have this many uses. In the video, you can see it being used as a stand for a cigarette, a toothbrush, a massage stick, tongs for spaghetti, and more!
(And yes… you already know I’m screaming internally seeing Diplo dressed so dapper here. Okay anyways, stream!)
Haiden – Wasted
Just a few months ago, Haiden took the world by storm with his single “Sorry to Your Next Ex,” which is currently chilling out at #8 on Spotify’s Pop Sauce playlist. As a follow up treat, Haiden is back with his new masterpiece “Wasted,” all about the feelings of disgust towards someone who straight up wasted your time!
“With this song, I wanted to show that I’m not always interested in meeting my fans where they’re comfortable,” Haiden says. “Being artistic and trying new things is often overshadowed by virality and artists can get stuck in a cycle of recreating old moments. I’m so much more interested in longevity and challenging myself artistically.”
Hayley Kiyoko – Deep In The Woods
~ You just can’t escape the thought of Hayley Kiyoko’s new single “Deep in the Woods.” Nope. Not possible! ~
Hayley spilled, “‘Deep in the Woods’ is a song that captures the feeling of instant connection, as if you’ve known someone forever even though you’ve only just met. It feels as if your entire being is haunted by their presence wherever you go. It’s that instantaneous moment of knowing you are willing to do anything to be with the one you love.”
Jessie Reyez – FRAUD
Is it ACTUALLY petty to call out something that shouldn’t be the way it is… like, someone acting like a total manipulative fraud? Nah.
I’m here for this.
Madeline Consoer – Wish It Away
Madeline Consoer grew up jamming out to Taylor Swift on car rides to school, and watching Shania Twain concert DVDs in her home basement. Destined to be a star herself, the Nashville-based singer/songwriter has been sharing her musical talents with the world – and you just can’t help but love to see it!
Madeline’s new single “Wish It Away” encourages us to cherish the present moment. She spilled, “‘Wish It Away’ is for the 16-year-old, just getting their first car, all the way to the 83-year-old, reminiscing on the great life that they had. We can all relate to wanting to go back in time and live a couple of our favorite moments one more time. You never know how good you have it until you’re out of it, and you wish you didn’t wish those good times away. Growin’ up ain’t all that you think. ;)”
It seriously isn’t. The adult world can be a literal nightmare. Spill that tea, queen!
