How does one manage to turn something icky into something totally irresistible? You might as well ask Franky.
We’ve all seen a couple smooching it up in public, and it can be quite awkward – especially if that couple happens to be within your friend group! It can also be difficult to tell a friend that while there’s a time and place for everything, the time and place to be showing off their PDA skills isn’t right in front of you.
West Yorkshire, UK-based singer Franky found herself in such a predicament, and decided to turn the scenario into a brilliant and addicting pop anthem – appropriately titled “PDA”!
Franky’s experience as an entertainer can be traced back to her early childhood years, as she begged her mother to sign her up for a singing competition while on vacation. She ended up winning the competition with her rendition of a Spice Girls song, and while she feels as though she won out of sympathy, she says she “never looked back since.”
Fast forward a few years, Franky’s father bought her a piano from eBay for only £10. She would constantly find herself jamming out on it, and eventually started learning to write songs with it. To say she was excited was an understatement, and that excitement can still be felt throughout all of her releases as a recording artist.
Franky wrote “PDA” with her old friend and her then boyfriend in mind. She spills, “They would give each other pet names, rub noses and slow kiss whilst they were in company. Our friends didn’t know where to look, so often looked at the floor to avoid feeling embarrassed around them. I LOVE the idea of being in love, but it was in this moment I realised how polarising public displays of affection are- PDA! I loved crafting a killer track around this concept, so shout out to the friend who hopefully doesn’t know this is about her, and hopefully never will!”
While PDA in itself can be a major turn off, you won’t be able to help turning this song all the way up! “PDA” is the poster child for pop perfection, stitched with youthful soundscapes and a whole lotta passion.
