The world is constantly changing, and so are we. (Hopefully for the better… if you know what I mean…)
Change can be uncomfortable though, and perhaps one of the most difficult parts of change is looking back upon the person one used to be. Whether it’s you or someone else, it can often be hard to accept the people we used to be, or accept the fact that we’ve changed into someone else. There’s often a sense of mourning involved, and rising singer/songwriter/producer Sarah Cothran completely captured the feeling in her new single “Funeral”!
At only 20 years of age, Sarah Cothran has made huge strides in the pop sphere. Growing up in a small town in Mississippi, Sarah would teach herself how to produce by watching YouTube tutorials. She felt as though being able to produce her own music was essential, stating “There’s a lot of creativity that can go into building a track. When I write a song I can hear the instruments and elements I want to be there and I love being able to express and make what I hear come to life. There also aren’t a lot of female producers and I really want to help change and level out the huge gap there.”
In 2017, Sarah started posting her music online, and her journey became one giant rollercoaster ride from there! Last month, Sarah released her first official single “Baby Why,” which received over a million streams worldwide in only 10 days. Sarah’s heartfelt ballad “Funeral” not only shines a light on her pristine vocals, but is a receipt that proves Sarah Cothran is a name you’ll be hearing for years to come.
Sarah spills, “’Funeral’ is a really special song for me. The entire song is a metaphor for losing yourself and mourning the old you. In life we change so much with time, relationships, and experiences that you can sometimes feel lost along the way. This song is about reflecting on that different version of yourself and feeling all of those mixed emotions.”
