Allison Ponthier Explores The Dark Side Of ‘Character Development’

When we’ve been done dirty, there eventually comes a time when we look back upon the situation and think of all the things we learned from the experience. But what happens when you suddenly notice the people who once treated you like trash are treating everyone else a whole lot better?

Kinda leaves you feeling like a guinea pig in a twisted experiment, right? Come on, you didn’t sign up for this!

Allison Ponthier’s latest single “Character Development” is a glistening pop anthem with a retro feel, perfect for anyone who has been left to feel like a punching bag in someone’s “growth experience.” Written alongside K.Flay and Tommy English, “Character Development” is Allison’s way of hitting the @ button while discussing a very frustrating period of her life.

“‘Character Development’ is about the people I’ve encountered who have treated me poorly, to then turn around and say that learning from that experience has made them a better person,” says Allison. “No one should be made to feel like they have to be a casualty or compromise themselves for someone else’s growth.”

The music video for “Character Development” is a gem of its own, co-directed by Brooklyn-based artist Maris Jones. You can find Allison playing the role of a best-selling romance novelist who’s suffering from a major case of writer’s block. She explores different concepts, but none of them seem to click right away. Thankfully there’s happy endings in store, and our favorite writer Allison feels like a champ. Check it out here!

I’m absolutely obsessed with this song, and the retro feel of the music video. It’s one thing to release an awesome song, but it’s another to release spectacular visuals in tandem. “Character Development” is Allison Ponthier’s first release since her Shaking Hands with Elvis EP, so get ready for more new tunes soon!
