What’s a good way to capture a moment in time, and perhaps freeze it?
Perhaps Rowan Drake‘s answer would be making music. The rising star recently dropped his debut EP Dear Ella, showcasing his ultra-vivid penmanship and delicate vocals for a timeless project.
Dear Ella, stitches a series of previously released singles together to offer a snapshot into the reflections of someone who misses an old lover. Everything seemed to be changing, and perhaps the departure did not take place at a favorable time. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Rowan vows to help pick up where the world left off. If the EP could be read as a letter, it would go a little something like this:
Dear Ella,
It is no small thing to be loved as much as you have loved me. At first, it terrified me and drove me away. I longed to see the world and to be ‘free.’ I dragged you along, let you in just enough to make you stay. I will never forgive myself for that.
I miss so much of who we were. I hope it’s true that paths that cross are destined to cross again. I know you’ve changed, and I promise to meet you where you are, to learn the new sides of you while still cherishing the old.
Forever yours,
R
Without a doubt, Dear Ella, is one of those projects that’ll quickly make you feel like you’re getting lost in the music. One can sense Rowan Drake’s desire for familiarity, and maybe even a time machine.
