There’s no cooler way to spend your 21st birthday than being on stage at an intimate venue and performing to some of your most devoted fans! Hundreds of people gathered together at the Music Box in San Diego on Sunday to celebrate Benson Boone’s big day, and the final night of his summer tour.
Not familiar with Benson Boone? Let’s get you caught up to speed.
Once upon a time, Benson Boone was your average teenager in Monroe, Washington. He was a swimmer, representing his school in huge diving competitions. He was also a singer, waiting to be discovered by the world – but it sure didn’t take long for that to happen!
Benson was encouraged by a friend to join a Battle of the Bands competition at their high school, just one week before the event was set to take place. He agreed to take on the role of playing piano, but ended up becoming the lead singer of the band. Mind you, Benson didn’t really have any singing experience prior to this performance. He was inspired to start posting videos of himself singing on TikTok, and you can probably guess what happened next…
Out of nowhere, Benson was encouraged to audition for American Idol. The producers fell in love with him, and decided to invite him to perform in front of the celebrity judges. They loved him too, and so did droves of new fans from all over the world. One of those fans happened to be Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons, who signed Benson to his label Night Street Records.
After his early singles “GHOST TOWN” and “In The Stars” saw huge success, Benson’s fans eagerly awaited more music from the singer. He recently released his sophomore EP PULSE, and fans got to enjoy songs old, new, and even unreleased on tour over the past few weeks. While the tour may only be a memory now, Benson made sure to leave everyone with memories they’ll never let go of!
Fans had queued up hours before the doors opened at the Music Box, and were ready to let out all of their excitement as soon as they walked inside! Nicky Youre opened up the show with a high energy performance, with fans belting out the lyrics to his summer ready songs such as “Sunroof” and “Eyes On You.” A personal highlight was his cover of “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees, which I recalled him performing at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in 2022. (Maybe, just maybe, I wanted to feel the same level of euphoria I did that night when I saw him perform that song, and was praying it would be on his setlist. Well, I got what I wanted!)
The beginning of the Spongebob Squarepants theme song helped welcome Benson Boone on stage. Loaded to the top with energy, Benson didn’t shy away from extending his arms out to hold fans’ hands, running around the crowd, and even shouting out fans in the crowd. Benson’s voice could be compared to a satisfying cup of coffee or hot chocolate on a cold Monday morning. It’ll naturally boost your mood, and it’ll leave you super satisfied. It’s really interesting to think about how just a few years ago, Benson had virtually no experience performing. As soon as he hits the stage, he commands it. He leaves you craving more and more, and hopefully that “more” will be coming soon!
