Gabriel Black knows that sometimes, one does not simply just “move on” from the feeling of heartbreak. His electric new single “Enemy” not only blurs genre lines, but it also provides a unique perspective towards those who are no longer a main character in someone’s story.
If you can’t seem get over a specific person, maybe they should become your enemy.
Gabriel is no stranger to creating a pleasing blend of hip-hop and rock, paired with bold, introspective lyrics. Songs such as “King of the Nosebleeds” and “Dead Yet (feat. Phem)” bring Gabriel close to listeners as he places his emotions right before our own ears. “Enemy” takes it to the next level, and kicks off a new era of storytelling for the singer.
“I wrote ‘Enemy’ before a huge turn of events in my life,” Gabriel says. “I used to easily fall into toxic mindsets that affected my relationships and their endings. This song is about a person unable to make amends with their ex, and needing them to become the enemy to truly move on. This was a collaboration with Tyler Johnson in 2021 and while I’m really proud of it, I’m looking forward to sharing music that shows an evolution of who I’ve become since – post the breakups, and more so, post cancer.”
