Em Beihold is bringing her Maybe Life Is Good Tour to cities across America this Spring. Appropriately named after her latest single, the tour will bring Em closer than ever to her fans and further strengthen an unbreakable bond. At a virtual press conference hosted by °1824, Em spilled the tea on many of the factors coming into play when it comes to preparing for an epic series of shows.

Em Beihold’s latest single “Maybe Life Is Good” was written during a period of time in 2022 when she wasn’t feeling the greatest. In a press release, she mentioned “struggling to connect with myself and the things that make me feel the best.” She refers to the song as a “life vest,” which helped her rise above her situation. While the song is optimistic, there’s a tiny sprinkle of skepticism included with the word “Maybe.”

“Naming my tour that just felt right,” Em said. “I want to create a safe space for a lot of people who have felt the same things I sing about in my songs.”

There were many things on Em’s mind prior to embarking on her Maybe Life Is Good Tour. Being on the road for multiple weeks at a time can be a step out of one’s comfort zone, and it can also be quite draining. When listing the most important things that helped her prepare for the tour, Em mentioned the importance of building endurance – both physically and mentally. She said, “I feel like I didn’t realize how much endurance is needed for performing on stage.”

Em also wants to fully enjoy her time on stage, even if she makes a few mistakes along the way. “I feel like that aways makes a better performance than hitting every note perfectly,” she shared. “For a while, I was concerned about putting on the most perfect show, but then it seems more robotic than human and fun. I think it’s better to miss a few notes but be laughing and connected to the audience. Performing has never been something that has come super naturally to me, and I’m so grateful to be touring, but I never dreamed of touring. It was beyond what my music dream was, so I think all of it has been one big learning curve and one that can easily go into embarrassment if I didn’t have the best show that I want.”

At the end of the day, it’s all about just getting out there and doing the thing! Em said, “It’s all experience, and I think all the tours I’ve done at this point are making me really stoked for this headline.”

Em has also partnered with HeadCount for the Maybe Life Is Good Tour, to encourage her fans to help create positive change in their communities. She said, “I think change happens at the local levels, and I think part of that is having the youth that engages in voting. If you look at the statistics, not a lot of youth actually do vote. Just making that easily accessible for my fanbase just felt like an important thing that I’d love to be a part of.”

She continues, “Alongside the HeadCount tables, I also have the organization Active Minds, which is a mental health awareness organization coming along to table at all the shows. People can get access to resources! If I can do a little part in making the world better, I’m always going to choose that.”

I had the chance to ask Em about her favorite pre-show traditions, and it seems like she has a pretty solid routine locked in. Em said, “I always do my little warm ups, I’ll do some yoga with the band, we’ll do some shaking before going on stage, and I’ll probably have some sort of panic attack. And then we go on stage!”

Em did admit to having stage fright, but she’s always finding new ways to help reduce those pre-show jitters. She’s also excited to be able to perform as a headliner in rooms where she was once the opener for someone else.
