Here’s a little more on “Would You Say It Too?” and some fun facts about Telehope, as told by members Ben, Adolph, and James!
Tell me the story behind “Would You Say It Too?”
Ben: “Would You Say It Too?” is the beginning of the new Telehope era, and also the first track on our upcoming album! We wanted it to be a memorable, energetic, but simple love song that anyone who’s been in love before can relate to.
How was Telehope formed?
Adolph: Ben and James are brothers and I’ve been best friends with both of them for 10+ years! We all fell in love with music around the same time and our band formed super organically. We started writing and recording music together and after playing our first show we were hooked.
What is your favorite band memory so far?
James: In 2022 we opened up for our good friend Adam Paddock in Columbus, OH! Since he went to college at OSU it was a PACKED house and energy was chaotically phenomenal haha! I felt like we played a super tight set and met some awesome people!!
In your opinion, what is the key to maintaining a strong group dynamic?
Adolph: I think it’s super important to balance communication with a shared end goal. We have weekly check-ins to stay disciplined with tasks and also make sure everyone is emotionally on the same page. A lot of creative decisions are subjective but so long as everyone feels heard we can decide what looks, sounds and feels best. Because we were best friends first, we had a really strong foundation.
What are some things that are currently inspiring you in life?
Ben: This song, as well as our upcoming album, has been sonically inspired by LANY and The Band Camino, with a bit of The 1975. LANY’s “a beautiful blur” album keeps inspiring me through their pop/rock love themes. Our fans also never cease to inspire me; hearing their stories of love and heartbreak make me want to write lyrics, so that’s a huge inspiration for us too.
James: Two main things/activities inspire me right now: first, I’m trying to dedicate 20 minutes every day to learning something new; it can be anything from learning how cars are made to learning about the history of the piano! I find that feeding that natural sense of curiosity helps keeps my brain fresh and not stay stagnant. Second, daily walks on cloudless days will never cease to just amaze me! Every time I’m outside I always see the variety in the trees, animals, etc. so that helps me to think about adding variety in the type of music I’m making, instruments I’m using, and stuff like that!
Adolph: I have recently been super inspired by country music- specifically pedal steel guitar. We obviously don’t have that in any of our music but I love listening to how those players complement the song with simple but intentional melodies. I try to draw inspiration from lots of different genres to keep my creativity fresh.
