It’s a privilege being able to see an artist play at the same venue during different stages of their career. mxmtoon is no stranger to performing in San Diego, especially at the House of Blues. Back in 2019, Maia made her first San Diego appearance with a sold out show at the venue’s Voodoo Room as part of her Masquerade Tour. Then in 2022, she performed in the main music hall for rising (the tour).
In the midst of a nationwide tour with AJR, mxmtoon returned to the main stage at House of Blues San Diego to play an intimate side show for her devoted fans. The following day, she would join AJR as support for a sold out show at the Kia Forum in LA. Maia admitted that being able to perform in arenas is cool, but also said “those big rooms are a little scary because I cant really hear people say ‘slay!'”
Performing at a club-sized venue allowed Maia to let loose and hear her fans sing along to catalog highlights like “mona lisa” and “sad disco.” It also allowed for some pretty wholesome crowd interaction moments to take place, such as grabbing a Dr. Simi doll from a fan in the front row and saying the doll looks “a little like her.”
Maia also invited rising singer Nep to open up the show, and the audience couldn’t get enough of her humorous, ironic lyricism.
