Joshua Bassett put on a very special hometown show on Sunday night at San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre!
Just two months ago, Joshua released his debut album The Golden Years, a tribute to his late teen years and early twenties. While this time period was filled with ups and downs for Joshua, it was all part of growing up, and The Golden Years places all the joy, heartbreak, and every emotion in between out on full display. Days after its release, Joshua embarked on a tour named after the album, where he’d perform highlights from the project and offer fans plenty of surprises.
For the semi-final night of the North American leg of the tour, the crowd really gave Joshua a homecoming to remember! Joshua grew up in San Diego, and got his start by acting in local theatre productions. His family was in attendance at the concert, as were many fans who traveled from all over the country for the show. Some fans even traveled from Europe!
As one would expect, fans brought along the best +1 anyone could possibly bring to a show: energy! Everyone was so happy to see Joshua, and he was equally as happy to see everyone singing along to his songs as he danced around the stage and alternated between a mic stand and his piano. Despite many of the songs on the setlist being relatively new, the crowd was able to recite every word.
(I was one of those people… I just couldn’t help singing along to the bop that is “Cherry Blossom” while I took these photos!)
There was a trampoline inside the barricade, which Joshua used in the second half of the show to hop back on stage after entering the barricade and having intimate interactions with fans. Speaking of fan interactions, Joshua also brought a lucky fan on stage to help teach the crowd how to dance to “Circles.” Joshua made his way through the aisles of the venue later in the evening, singing and shaking dozens of hands.
Overall, the best way to describe this concert would be a celebration of life, and all the emotions we’ll experience throughout our lives!
