Have you’ve been trying to match Tinashe’s freak this year? A few of us who have were lucky enough to catch her at SOMA in San Diego on October 14!
Tinashe’s “Match My Freak World Tour” celebrates the success of her viral hit “Nasty” and her latest album Quantum Baby, which was released in August. Joined by a quartet of male backup dancers, Tinashe didn’t hesitate to mesmerize the crowd as she performed various songs from different points of her career.
The most remarkable aspect of the night was without a doubt the energy that was reciprocated between the crowd and Tinashe herself. As music fans, we often hear about how the artist will feed off the energy of the crowd. From the moment the stage lights began to flicker and the introduction visuals started to flash on the screens, one could just sense that this was one excited crowd. Many fans on the barricade began to shout “come on!” and “yes queen!” as Tinashe made her entrance to start the night out by singing “Getting No Sleep.” Fans continued to sing along and insert ad-libs in the songs as the night went on. This excited energy made it clear to see (and sense) that everyone was having a good time. In fact, this was probably the most animated crowd I’ve ever crossed paths with at SOMA!
