As part of their 2024 North American tour, Dayglow paid Chicago a visit with a sold out show at the House of Blues on October 24! Despite it being a Thursday night, hundreds of fans filled every corner and crevice of the music hall to catch the indie-pop act in action.
The show kicked off with a great throwback, as Dayglow played “Junior Varsity,” a song from the 2019 album Fuzzybrain. It was quite a nostalgic moment for me, as I recall discovering Dayglow during the dog days of early 2020. This album was a gem that I treasured, and it brought me lots of comfort at the time. Dayglow has come pretty far since then, with three more album releases and selling out headline shows nationwide… just like this one in Chicago!
Recently, Dayglow released their fourth studio album – a self-titled project that served as a formal introduction to frontman Sloan Struble’s unique, creative mind. The setlist featured many songs from Dayglow, including “Every Little Thing I Say I Do,” “Weatherman,” and “What People Really Do,” just to name a few. Of course, Sloan would jump around the stage with his guitar while singing these songs passionately. The crowd couldn’t help but jump as well, causing the floor of the venue to constantly shake.
It was also easy to tell that Sloan was incredibly excited to be back in Chicago. His demeanor was so giddy and carefree throughout the night. His fellow bandmates were also visibly in high spirits. At one point, Sloan took a moment to do a rock-paper-scissors battle with a fan in exchange of a guitar pick. He also unwrapped a baby onesie on stage, thrown on stage by a fan who wanted to celebrate their pregnancy.
It was an evening for everyone to let loose and enjoy some great music – from the fans to Dayglow themselves!
