Singer/songwriter Dela Kay has turned pain into purpose with her new single “Anybody Else.”

While it’s a gentle track, “Anybody Else” represents a deep wound that is being healed. Dela Kay wrote the song alongside Nick Cozine and Whitney Fenimore, who she also collaborated with on her previous single “Remedy.” The moment she met with her collaborators, she had a feeling “Anybody Else” would sound like a ballad. During the session, she began to recall memories from her previous relationship, up until the moment it all came to an end.

She says, “I was still processing a painful breakup just a few months before, and with the Halloween spookiness looming in the air that day, nostalgia was all around us. We started to walk down memory lane with my past relationship, coming up with lyrics detailing my first date, then letting the current reality hit when writing the chorus.”

“Anybody Else” is reminiscent of a song you might’ve heard in the early 00’s. That simple touch of nostalgia helps create an unforgettable listening experience.

“It’s kind of giving ‘A Cinderella Story’ when Chad Michael Murray runs up on the bleachers in the rain to kiss Hilary Duff after the football game,” Dela Kay explains. “We wanted the verses to feel bare, with acoustics leading the track alongside strings, but then have the choruses come in strong with booming drums and electric guitar swells—absolutely wrecking our hearts.”
