If there’s someone who’s ready to sing about the pressures of today’s society, it’s Slush Puppy! Back in March, the San Diego native made his debut on Disruptor Records with “Juliette,” a song reminding us just how deceiving looks can be. On social media, we get to pick and choose what the world gets to see and learn about us. It might lead some people to create an image in their head about us that might not reflect who we actually are, and “Juliette” tackled this topic like a champion wrestler.
But what if someone felt compelled to change their entire persona both online and offline, just to impress one person in specific?
This is where Slush Puppy’s new single “Barbie Doll” comes in! He says, “‘Barbie Doll’ is about wanting to be with someone so bad that you are willing to change your entire self and character to keep their attention. I wanted to creatively express what it feels like to overcompensate for being insecure.”
The urge to do such a thing can be hard to resist, but hopefully “Barbie Doll” will encourage listeners to embrace and stick to their true selves. After all, each one of is unique… we’re not mass-produced like actual Barbie dolls!
