Nashville-based duo davvn (pronounced dawn) knows being an adult isn’t always the easiest thing in the world. Having been inspired by artists like Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch and Paramore, the duo crafts an upbeat, nostalgic pop/rock sound that will instantly put a smile on the face of any mid-late ’90s babies.
davvn’s latest single “anybody else?” describes how overwhelming life can get… literally. Here’s some things you need to know about davvn – straight from the members themselves!
How did davvn meet?
davvn consists of members McCall and Mike. The two met in Boston during their final year of college, and bonded over their shared love for pop punk and indie music.
Who were your favorite artists growing up?
Mike was personally a huge fan of Fall Out Boy, The Maine, and Third Eye Blind!
Share a fun fact listeners might not know about you!
Mike says, “McCall and I both consider ourselves to be nerds haha, we were both actually computer science majors in college and worked as programmers. It definitely feels like it has helped us a lot being so involved with tech to know more about social media and video editing, etc. Since artists these days are required to really do it all themselves these skills have really come in handy for us.”
Coolest concert you’ve ever been to?
I love festivals and the atmosphere around them, one of my favorites I’ve been to was Firefly in Delaware. There were some amazing artists there the two years we went – Blink 182, Flume, Deadmau5. Really incredible to see with such a huge crowd.
What’s something you hope to accomplish before the end of 2023?
We’re finishing up our first ever EP this year, and hope to release that in the fall! Really excited to get to share a collection of all the songs we’ve written since we moved to Nashville and show the world who we are.
Tell me about how “anybody else?” came together! What inspired the song, and how was it like hitting the studio to record it?
The vibe of “anybody else?” was inspired by some of our favorite 2000s artists like Michelle Branch and Hilary Duff. We wrote the song about how we’ve been feeling lately as adults – a little bit burnt out and overworked trying to support ourselves as artists haha. We worked with two of our really great friends Andrew Gomez and Danny Hidalgo on the song, who funnily enough were the two people who convinced us to move out to Nashville over a year ago. Andrew’s produced a lot of songs for us – “thanks”, “depressed in heaven”, and more are on the way. He’s got a great home studio setup and we record everything from there.
