[PICS!] mgk and Wiz Khalifa Rock San Diego With The Lost Americana Tour

On the evening of May 17, thousands of enthusiastic fans packed Chula Vista’s North Island Credit Union Amphitheater to catch mgk on his Lost Americana Tour. This was the third date of the second leg of the tour, which had kicked off earlier in the week in Northern California. While it was expected to hear songs from mgk’s 2025 lost americana album, the show turned out to be a giant celebration of mgk’s latest and greatest musical offerings.

Shortly around 8 p.m., Wiz Khalifa greeted the crowd with an opening set that transported many audience members straight down memory lane. Performing hits such as “The Thrill,” “Black and Yellow,” “Roll Up” and “Young, Wild & Free,” the set felt like a giant sing-a-long session, with happiness radiating from every corner of the crowd. As one would expect, there were also plenty of blunts being shared between audience members, and hazy clouds of smoke began to appear across the amphitheater. It was all in the name of fun and good vibes.

Right before mgk hit the stage, fans in the pit section of the venue began to raise their handmade posters. Many signs detailed how many (hundreds of) miles each fan traveled to be at the show, while others were requests to be brought up on stage for “bloody valentine.”

Standing side by side with a microphone stand wrapped in a giant cigarette, mgk opened his set with a group of songs that were mostly from lost americana. Fans gleefully sang along to tracks such as “starman” and “goddamn,” as a very light drizzle began to shower the crowd.

After the crowd had the opportunity to jump and shout along to “I Think I’m OKAY,” mgk welcomed Wiz Khalifa back on stage to perform a few tracks from their new project blog era boyz. Released on May 22, the collaborative mixtape represents the carefree energy that helped define the blog era of hip-hop in the late 2000s and early 2010s. That being said, the project is a nod to both artists’ roots, and it has a distinct nostalgic feel that translated well on stage. The crowd was very receptive to the new songs, waving their arms, phone flashlights, and waving cigarettes and blunts in the air. While it might sound repetitive at this point, the crowd was indeed still very happy, and this excited energy never seemed to die down for the rest of the evening.

It was quite heart-warming seeing just how many children in the crowd were ecstatic to be at the show. At one point, mgk joked about the mature aspects of his show. After lighting a cigarette, he said, “What I’m smoking kids is not a cigarette, it’s a health uh… you know what?”

As he made a joke about “giving up” on his attempt to be kid friendly, he said, “When you grow up, life is just boobs and drugs. Einstein did all that number crunching for me to literally just figure out the equation of life. E = boobs and drugs.”

Throughout the evening, mgk remained interactive with the fans, calling out a few audience members for their outfits and responding to comments shouted out loud. After performing “Bad Mother F*cker” from the center of the venue, mgk called upon a 6-year-old fan from a viral TikTok to join him on the B-stage. The girl was dressed in a purple spiked suit, which was meant to recreate mgk’s 2022 American Music Awards outfit.

mgk is totally for the kids — those young in age, and those young at heart.
