This energetic dance track is inspired by the squat pose often associated with Japan’s yankee culture. Simply put, a “yankee” or “yanki” (ヤンキー) is a rebellious young person. While many see the title and characteristics as unpleasant, ONE OR EIGHT attempts to mold it into something powerful — a celebration of individuality and being carefree. There’s no better way to do this than by creating a summer anthem with larger than life beats and a chorus that can easily stick to the mind of the listener.
“It’s an all-or-nothing track that really captures who we are as a group,” says member RYOTA. “It’s the kind of song that makes you want to shout, ‘YANKEE! YANKEE! SQUAT!’ Along with that energy, we also included uniquely Japanese elements like the yankee squat and bontan pants, so I hope everyone pays attention to those details. Also, don’t miss the members’ chants during the chorus! The choreography features moves inspired by the yankee squat and the classic regent hairstyle, while showcasing the hip-hop style we’re known for. It’s packed with highlights that really bring out the spirit of yankee culture.“
