Toronto-based Peruvian-Vietnamese artist Jenny Palacios is a pro at creating satisfying tunes. One quick skim through her catalog will introduce you to a gritty, intimate sound coated in authenticity.
Recently, the singer released her new single “Ruin Your Life,” blending pop and rock elements to explore the feelings of a crazy night out, longing for someone who’s personality may have been an illusion, and all of the thoughts and feelings that followed the moment of realization.
While the track was originally intended to be about tearing down a façade that made everything look perfect, it quickly evolved into a reflection. Instead of being angry at someone else, Jenny realized she was feeling drained.
“I realized I wasn’t really angry at anyone, I think I was just really overwhelmed,” Palacios explains. “The song became less about ruining someone else’s life and more about trying to escape your own head… we kept the title because it’s fun.”
