Overthinking is something we all do, and I’m guilty of doing it all the damn time. But the truth is, overthinking can seriously interfere with the creative process! It can be like a loop of thoughts that you get stuck in, and it can be so difficult to exit.
Although changing your mindset might take a few steps, you can certainly tackle the challenge. Nina Baumer did just that, and explained it all in her latest single “Over Thinking.”
Nina Baumer was born in Chicago, but grew up in Australia with a blooming interest in music. Her father played rock, reggae, and blues around the house, and she ended up training in musical theater and opera all throughout her childhood. Nina found inspiration in many of pop’s biggest powerhouse vocalists, such as Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, and Whitney Houston. She decided to shift towards a more contemporary sound, and when Nina was 16, she began to write her own music.
Prior to moving to the United States, Nina had already performed on shows such as Australia’s School Spectacular, The Netball World Cup Opening Ceremony (Fox, Foxtel), and The Voice Australia. She’s performed in cities all across the US, and currently resides in Los Angeles.
“Over Thinking” is Nina’s first single of 2021, following “Bad Excuse.” It comes with quite a fitting title! Nina says, “On the day of the session, I realized that by overthinking, I was seeing and even thinking about the self doubt about being a songwriter; I was killing my creativity and instead feeding it with anxiety. I wanted to say ‘Hey, change your mindset, you deserve to be in this room and you’re now so over thinking about what is making you unhappy.’”
Nina has plenty of more music to share in 2021, including an EP this May. For now, listen to “Over Thinking” below!
